"Last thing in America" - (Oct. 3rd, 2017)

As I pulled the small boxes out of the storage and then put them into the much bigger one and finally sent it all back, for the first time to myself, the memories passed in front of me like slides but I still can't focus on them. "Have I really been all this time here in America?" I wonder sometimes. It's hard to really explain how it feels, I think I am still digesting everything. I do not know if my brain doesn't want to realize or is really incapable of "reproducing". But 90 concerts in less than 2 years is something! Many new faces, hands, hugs, ears reached, enriched my vision of the world and human being, in contact with the beauty and the ugliness of the existence.

In this box there are not only my things but almost three years of my life in America, in the US. Three long years indispensable to closing a long cycle of my existence. I needed to make peace with myself and with my country. If I had not been far away, and I am not talking about physical distance, I would have never understood how deeply I am in love and attached to my land, and with land I mean everything that it encloses and produces. This is the most important American lesson.

More than one asked me why in the hell I came back to Italy, a country that many define as a disaster. I was not only missing my country and my (former!) girlfriend, but it was costly, in terms of energy, money, work, work on myself, loneliness, not just the solitude you meet in a new and totally unknown country. All this turned out to be indispensable to my growth and development first as a person, then as a musician. Everything has its moment, the one in which everything comes out.

And now I'm definitely back in my beautiful Italy but with a new enthusiasm: I'm getting ready to start my new fight ;)

The results, in fact, of all this emotional minestrone, once again, are and will be perceptible in my music. Yes, I said mine. Not only the one written by others. I wrote something and I would love you to listen to it. If you're curious, well, you just have to keep in touch with me and the best way to do so is to email me (flaviosala1 @ gmail.com), Instagram (@FlavioSalaGuitar), Facebook (/ FlavioSalaFans) or as you prefer, but write me, because what I am preparing was not designed at the table, following the trend or my no-maganer's advices, but dictated by telling you my story: who I was, who I am and where I go.

While I continue to work and refine the project, I want to share with you a video of one of the music that more than any other, when I happen to listen to it suddenly abroad, makes me feel a deep melancholy of my land: CINEMA PARADISO by our beloved Andrea and Ennio Morricone, my arrangement for solo guitar.

A BIG THANK YOU to Tony, Laura and Mike for their friendship, hospitality, the incredible help they generously gave me during my move and my very short staying in Baltimore. Without them it would have been a real nightmare! Thanks also for the intense hours of music lived together and the authentic laughter of joy.

Very soon I will tell you about an extraordinary meeting I had in Baltimore just a few hours before my flight...

Love,

Flavio.

Flavio, it has been a true pleasure following you over the past 3 years, and befriending you during that time. From the first time we saw you at The Barn, we knew you were something special. You have a gift to give to the world. You have given it to us. May you continue to share your gift to others. We truly hope our paths cross again in the future. All the best. Terry & Steve

Sad for ourselves to hear you are not coming back but happy for you because you are experiencing the love and comfort that is unique to "home". We miss our personal intimate concerts that you blessed us with in Anita and Brian's great room's special acoustics . It was amazing to experience your music in such a small quiet and intimate space. I think it is the best way to hear the expressiveness and nuance of your performance. I feel so fortunate to have heard you in such a setting. I look forward to following you from afar and wish you all the happiness and success as you continue to make great music. Greg

Dearest Flavio. You will be so missed but I am glad that you are happy at home. If most people asked why you left America I always wondered why you left the beautiful country of Italy. I love it there as well as you. Thank you for giving us the gift of you!

Dear Flavio! I know how you feel. I lived in America 6 months. I had a hard time. And only now beginning to understand how I grew up every day. Because every day was a new challenge. Now I am confident and happy during this time. Sometimes I feel your music is a beautiful sadness. Thank you for all that you do! Thank you Italy for you and your guitar too. . Your postcard from America living in my house. with love
